Exfoliation

Dead skin cells increase how wrinkles look on our skin, and create a barrier to deeper penetration. By regularly exfoliating we increase blood flow, oxygen and lymph circulation. All these things add up to healthier skin.

Winter Skin

Are you feeling it? Skin can turn dry and scaly during the winter months, becoming dehydrated for a variety of reasons. Being inside in the dry heat from forced air and bathing in hot water can rob your skin of hydration.

Make sure you’re exfoliating your skin, scalp, face and body. To allow products to penetrate deeper we first need to exfoliate dead skin cells. For the scalp I like using a shampoo that has a bit of charcoal and exfoliant, or try using a scalp brush to increase circulation which also encourages hair growth. Nourish your scalp with a deep conditioning treatment and watch the flakes disappear.

For the face choose a gentle exfoliant for your skin type. Some of my favorites are from Eminence Organic Skin Care and include, Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant, Stone Crop Oxygenating Fizzofoliant , Turmeric Energizing Treatment and Arctic Berry Peel & Peptide Illuminating System. It helps to use your moisturizer over slightly moist skin to lock-in hydration. My favorites include Coconut Age Corrective Moistuizer, Monoi Age Corrective Night Cream Face & Neck, Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Hydrator, they are all excellent choices.

One type of product that can really nourish your skin is a mask. It is a misnomer that a mask can only be applied for a short duration, any creamy mask can boost hydration and can be left on for extended period. The hydration masks from Eminence dry clear, I often sleep in a hydration mask. Used over the top of a moisturizer can boost hydration. Overnight we can loose up to 16 to 33 ounces of water, using a hydrating mask at night will help in retaining moisture in your skin. A few for dry winter skin are Bamboo Age Corrective Masque, Calm Skin Arnica Masque , Firm Skin Acai Masque, and Kombucha Microbiome Leave-on Masque.

Don’t forget the rest of your skin. The body needs exfoliation and hydration too, my skin is dry and I go for maximum hydration. I like to mix Coconut Firming Body Lotion and Apricot Body Oil, the combination creates a luscious Apple Pie vibe. Other fan favorites are Yuzu Solid Body Oil and Monoi Age Corrective Night  Body Lotion. Also regular dry brushing is a huge benefit for the skin through exfoliation and for the lymph system. If dry brushing is not for you, stepping in to the shower and wet brushing is also very effective. The skin is our largest organ, is deserves your attention.
